Neema Crafts Workshop UK

Neema Crafts Workshop UK is a registered charity within the UK (reg no. 1117305). Its mission is:"to relieve the financial hardship or other charitable needs of people with disabilities at Neema Crafts centre in Iringa, Tanzania of those people with disabilities who are connected to the centre, to enable them to obtain training in appropriate skills by such means as the trustees determine from time to time, providing they are recognised as charitable according to the charitable law." Neema Crafts Workshop acts as the UK fund raising base to support the work carried out by Neema Crafts Tanzania. It is a separate legal entity under it's own UK board of trustees.

Neema Crafts covers all it's running costs (that’s all wages, rent, amenities, raw materials, etc) from the revenue generated by what is sold, (just!) We receive no outside support at all to cover this, which we believe is no bad thing as it keeps us on our toes creatively and ensures that we only make high quality goods that people really want to buy. However, there are always needs that we cannot meet from sales alone, and this is where you and the U.K. charity can help. Specifically we are always glad of donations to buy and improve craft equipment (such as looms for example), towards our Physiotherapy work to purchase wheelchairs and other disability aids, or to fund training, such as the cost of the literacy classes which we provide free of charge to people with disabilities who were denied an education when they were children or our tailoring and computing courses.

• £5 pays for a month's weekly literacy classes for 10 people.
• £10 pays for a malaria treatment for 3 people
• £30 buys 4 pairs of locally made crutches
• £90 buys a 3 wheeled hand-bike wheelchair, which gives vital independence to wheel-chair bound people.
• £150 is how much it costs us to train a disabled person for their initial 6 months training period before they become proficient at their craft
• £360 buys an expertly made table-loom, used for hand-weaving fine scarves etc. which will last for many years
